Adam, what are your thoughts on Seth McFarlane’s “The Orville” series?
I’ve been watching it for a few years—on season 3 now—and it’s a wonderful blend of Star Trek homage (even the sound of feet on carpet is the same as TOS) and nods to Babylon 5 and Battlestar Galactica
I haven't watched it because I can't wrap my mind around watching a show that stars Seth McFarlane. I guess I'm weirdly stubborn about sticking with "real" Star Trek.
I get that—although I feel like its strangeness as a cultural object (how heavily it cites and extends the logic and philosophy of Star Trek TOS and TNG) may warrant an investigation that is closely related to what you’ve done w Late Star Trek! That and it’s pretty damn good by season 2 😁
Alright, since you're appealing to the concept of the blog, I'll take it under advisement. Maybe the need for more blog fodder is what will finally convince me.
awesome 😎 no pressure obviously, but I am very curious how you would characterize it as a piece of media. I can’t yet make heads or tails of how it’s both highly referential & nostalgic while also deliberately anonymous and “fresh” in its tone
I'll be interested to see how far into the Ryan North back catalogue you get. Let me know if you make it to the six-episode podcast "Squirrel Girl: The Unbeatable Radio Show", where the framing conceit is that it's a recording of the call-in advice show that Squirrel Girl runs on her university's student-run radio station.
Ok I finished the Dracula story and I think that it is a failure with the marginal comments, but would have been quite good without. I’m not inclined to read any more of North’s work I think.
I would definitely appreciate some posts on the old DC series.

His Fantastic Four run is pretty good -- give it a shot...
I was surprised how much of the second issue is a meta commentary on Nu Trek.
Oh god, the marginal comments in the Dracula story are unbearable.

I have trained myself to ignore the marginal comments at this point.
